SPEECH - NYC Mayor Adams Called On To Restore School Budget Cuts

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – AUGUST 4: (SPEECH) A youth leader with Make the Road NY speaks about the need for further public-school funding as students, parents, teachers, and education advocates rally at Foley Square outside across from the New York Supreme Court calling on New York Mayor Eric Adams to restore preliminary budget cuts to public school on August 4, 2022 in New York City. On Monday July 18, 2022, a lawsuit was filed by two New York City parents and two teachers hoping to overturn the City Council’s approval of the city budget, which the City Council signed off on. School budgets will be slashed by millions for the 2022 academic year. The lawsuit is against the City of New York, the New York City Department of Education (DOE), and the DOE Chancellor, David C. Banks. The lawsuit seeks for the City Council to reconsider and vote again, and for the court to invalidate the adopted budget - the financial plan approved by the City Council. Some education advocates call for legislators to separate mayoral control of NYC's public schools from the budgetary process. (Footage by Tomas Abad/Getty Images)
