Mysterious monolith appears at world’s oldest temple in Turkey
SANLIURFA, TURKEY - FEBRUARY 06: The mystery of metal slab appeared near Gobeklitepe, home to the world’s oldest temple site, in Turkey's southeastern province of Sanlıurfa has been trying to unravel. The 3-meter-tall (9.8-foot-tall) metal monolith, is triangular in shape and metallic in composition.Gendarmerie rushed to the site following the alert of locals them to the monolith. The troops cordoned off the area, an empty lot, and brought in experts from the local culture and tourism authorities. Many people have visited the slab with the inscription written in the ancient Gokturk alphabet, and meant “Look at the sky if you want to see the Moon.”“We've never seen anything like it in our life,” the owner of the field where the monolith appeared, Fuat Demirdil, said on Saturday (Feb. 6).He noted they encountered this when they woke up in the morning.Stressing “We do not know what it is,” said, Demirdil adding that the people are worried. He also demanded an explanation of "what happened".Gendarmerie troops have been standing guard around the slab.Gobeklitepe is in the World Heritage List of UNESCO (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), and hosts thousands of visitors from many countries including Europe to Far East, from America to Africa. In November 2020 the first monolith, which was strikingly similar to the one in the sci-fi classic “2001: A Space Odyssey,” appeared in a desert in the U.S. state of Utah.Similar objects emerged in unlikely places, from Romania to Canada. Theories about who made and installed mysterious monoliths often point to extraterrestrial beings, but more often than not, the monoliths have been found to be the work of local artists paying tribute to the sci-fi film.
