'We will stay in Gaza and rebuild it' say displaced Palestinians marching on foot to north

GAZA, PALESTINE-JAN. 27:On January 27, 2025, tens of thousands of displaced Palestinians returned to Gaza and northern regions after more than 15 months of displacement due to the genocide committed by Israel. The return, initially planned for January 25, was delayed due to logistical challenges posed by Israel.Many returnees, walking on foot from southern Gaza, were filled with joy as they reached their homes. Despite the widespread destruction of Gaza, with 88% of the strip ruined, including homes, hospitals, and essential services, the returnees are determined to rebuild their homeland.Abu Mustafa, a displaced Palestinian, vowed, "We will rebuild Gaza, stone by stone, and we will never leave, no matter the threats." Another returnee, Ashraf Rady, called the day "historic" and expressed optimism about a better future for Gaza. Local artist Amir Zahid, playing the darbuka in the crowd, shared that while the joy of return was immense, it was also bittersweet due to the loss of loved ones and livelihoods.The displaced Palestinians returned through two key points along the Netzarim axis, established by Israel in October 2023.
