KAZAKHSTAN - APRIL 18: Kazakhstan grapples with devastating floods that have claimed the lives of five individuals, while two others remain missing, as reported by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Marat Kocayev in a press briefing following the Senate's general session.Kocayev revealed that four individuals tragically drowned in the Atyrau region due to the persistent flooding across the country, while one child succumbed to the strong currents in the Turkistan region.Efforts to locate the missing individuals are currently underway in the Abay province, with criminal cases initiated and investigations launched by law enforcement agencies.The nation continues to battle floods triggered by the rapid melting of snow runoff from a rainy winter. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, a state of "local emergency" persists in 38 settlements across 8 regions due to the flooding.Rescue operations have successfully evacuated 117,694 individuals from flood-affected areas, with 18,651 returning to their homes and 6,887 taking refuge in temporary shelters.
