Nancy Pelosi addresses House after Whip Scalise, others shot

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi of California addresses the House during a brief session after Majority Whip Steve Scalise and others were shot practicing in Alexandria, Virginia, for an annual charity baseball game. Pelosi pays tribute to the brave men and women of the Capitol police and expresses sadness for an assault on colleagues and staff. Pelosi notes her Italian connection with Scalise, names the shooting victims, misstates 1988 as when Capitol police detective John Gibson and officer Jacob Chestnut were killed protecting members, that she prays for every member and having been a political target of more threats than many she prays for Barack Obama and President Donald Trump as well. Pelosi says members will gather in unity the next day for an annual charity baseball game, that sports bring people together, to root for the team and members will count the minutes until Scalise and the other victims return.
