The Waldorf-Astoria
The Waldorf-Astoria, New York, circa 1900. Two hotels side-by-side: the Waldorf Hotel opened in 1893, and the Astoria opened in 1897. They were merged into the Waldorf-Astoria, connected by a 300 metres (980 ft) long corridor, known as 'Peacock Alley'. The merger gave the joint hotel 1,300 bedrooms, making it the largest hotel in the world at the time.
