TO GO WITH AFP STORY BY Max Delany Fried grasshoppers are sold by a street vendor in Kampala, Uganda on December 10, 2011. Stripped of their wings and fried with onions, grasshoppers are a delicacy in Uganda's central region. Insect catchers use the bright lights to attract the flying insects before disorientating them with smoke and trapping them in disused oil drums. The regularity of nationwide power cuts and a general shortage of electricity have seen the price of grasshoppers go up and the demand for the delicacy decrease. In recent months, rising fuel prices and a weakening local currency have meant the Ugandan government has struggled to cover bills for diesel generators affecting trade for the country's insect catchers.
