Some 31 families attended an event organized by Club Migrante Chinelos De Morelos En Nueva York, as part of efforts by humanitarian groups to unite undocumented migrants from Mexico living in the US whose parents are over 50 years-old and who, in some cases, have been separated for decades. Under an agreement between the two countries, US visas are issued to parents allowing them to visit their children for the events held in sanctuary cities such as New York, under the condition that the parents return to Mexico. According to the Migration Policy Institute there are estimated to be around 11 million undocumented migrants living in the US, of which almost half are from neighboring Mexico.
