Mud dauber - Stock-Fotografie

Close-up of a dark colored mud dauber from central Benin (West Africa). This wasp lives in miombo forests with 6 months of drought. The pointed and long mandibles are used to collect mud to build nests. The nests are often seen in crevices, old trees and houses. The impressive jaws are also used to hunt spiders that are brought to the nest. Total length of this wasp is 3,5cm.
