LETICIA. August, 10, 2007 24-year-old Leticia and her son Calvin, 4, at home in North York. Leticia was sponsored to come to Canada from her native Ghana by her step-father when she was 12. She suffered years of rape at his hands before her mother found out and sent her back to an African boarding school in shame. She was married and became pregnant while back in Ghana, and returned to Canada with Calvin. She has been shamed into keeping silent about the years of abuse, by her family and cultural community.
