Student protests: Theresa May interview; ENGLAND: London: INT Theresa May MP (Home Secretary) interview SOT - I understand there was an incident involving their royal highnesses tonight / next step is matter for Metropolitan police / condemn the increasing levels of violence that some of the protesters have been, and still are, involved in - what we've seen on the streets, the wanton vandalism, the smashing of windows, attacks on buildings, has nothing to do with peaceful protest - I've spoken to Sir Paul Stephenson, the Commissioner of Metropolitan Police, and he's updated me on the appalling levels of violence we have seen today - attacks on police officers and property show that some of the protesters have no respect for London and its citizens - police have had very tough job today in exceptionally difficult circumstances / they have put themselves on the line to keep London streets and citizens safe and we thank them for their professionalism - peaceful protest is acceptable, violent protest and criminal damage is not Q: protesters smashed royal car, how can people have any confidence in the security?
