Cancer surge overwhelms AIDS-struck Botswana

The United Nations on Tuesday slashed its estimate of HIV-AIDS sufferers in the world to 39.5 million, seven million less than previously thought. Numbers of people living with the virus is levelling out and the percentage of the population affected is now in decline, the UN said in its annual report. Sub-Saharan Africa remains the hardest hit both by HIV and knock-on diseases. Doctors in Botswana are battling one of the world's highest levels of HIV infection and now they also face a dramatic rise in cancer cases as a result of the epidemic. The disease is putting extra pressure on the country's overstretched health system. An AFPTV voiced report. (Footage by AFPTV via Getty Images)
