Tourists queue to enter the Centre Pompidou on April 9, 1977, during the Easter weekend, in Paris, deserted by Parisians but invaded by provincial and foreign tourists. The Georges-Pompidou National Center for Art and Culture (Centre national d'Art et de Culture Georges-Pompidou), commonly known as the Centre Pompidou or Beaubourg, is a multidisciplinary cultural institution dedicated to modern and contemporary creation which houses, within the National Museum of Modern Art, one of the two most important collections of modern and contemporary art in the world. It was designed by architects Renzo Piano, Richard Rogers and Gianfranco Franchini and inaugurated by French President Valéry Giscard d'Estaing on January 31, 1977.
