(Original Caption) This official police photograph shows Dr. Samuel Sheppard's jacket on a downstairs couch where he is said to have dozed off a few hours before his wife's murder in their Bay Village home. The youthful osteopath is on trial, accused of the brutal July 4th slaying. Mr. and Mrs. Don Ahern, Sheppard family friends, were to testify November 8th that "Sam" ws asleep on the couch, wearing the jacket and a white t-shirt when they left the house at 12:30 AM, July 4th. This photo was taken early Independence Day morning.
