Lake Nyos Following Gas Eruption
The waters of Lake Nyos near Wum, Cameroon, have turned a murky brown following a deadly release of toxic gas. In August of 1986, the lake, which is located in a volcanic crater, released a massive cloud of carbon dioxide, killing over 1,700 people and thousands of livestock animals as the gas cloud descended through the surrounding valleys. | Location: Near Wum, Cameroon.
