Rustons Strike And Demonstration In Lincoln City Centre

Nearly 3000 Rustons workers brought the centre of Lincoln to a standstill in the biggest industrial demonstration in the city since the 1926 General Strike. They swarmed around the Stonebow as Alderman John Spence was being sworn in as the new Mayor of Lincoln in the Guildhall The workers poured out of Rustons, bringing production to a halt , to protest to the new civic leader and council against English Electrics, (owners of Rustons) decision to move production of the award winning A.O. diesel engine out of the city.
