(Original Caption) House hunting Willie Mays, the centerfielder for the new San Francisco Giants appeared in his bathrobe and slippers this morning to declare himself deeply disappointed, but "not mad at anybody" when neighborhood pressure resulted in refusal of his offer of $37,500 for a new home near St. Francis Wood Section of San Francisco. San Francisco Mayor George Christopher, one of the leaders in the movement to bring the Giants to San Francisco, issued this statement; "San Francisco is a very understanding city and it is not our practice to preclude anyone living where he wants to, regardless of race. On the other hand, no law requires an owner to dispose of his property. What's happened is not in accordance with San Franciso's traditions."
