EREZ CROSSING, -: Holding a photograph of the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, leader also of the Fatah movement, Palestinian families most of them supporters of the ousted secular Fatah movement in the Gaza Strip, wait to be let across the Erez Crossing leading from the northern Gaza Strip into Israel, 18 June 2007, where they have been waiting for several days to escape to the Palestinian West Bank following the fighting between pro-Hamas and Fatah loyalists. Several hundred families have been sleeping in the open air in the hope that Israel will open the crossing to let them through to the West Bank following the take over on 14 June of the Gaza Strip by the Islamist movement Hamas, which did make up the part of the Unity Government sacked by president Mahmud Abbas and replaced yesterday.
