CORRECTION / Guatemalan soldiers of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) secure the evacuation of their non essential civil personnel in Goma on January 25, 2025. The African Union on Saturday urged the "immediate cessation" of the deadly fighting in eastern Democratic Republic Congo, where Rwandan-backed M23 forces are battling foreign peacekeepers and the DRC military. The African Union Commission's chair Moussa Faki Mahamat called for "the immediate cessation of all hostilities" and "strongly urges the parties to preserve the lives of civilians", the body said in a statement.
