RETRO-GULF WAR SYNDROME-FRENCH SOLDIERS-HEALTH

French soldiers from the Foreign Legion Infantry regiment wear 26 October 1990 in the Saudi desert near Hafr al-Baten, full chemical warfare equipment during a training session during the Gulf War. Iraq's invasion of Kuwait 02 August 1990, ostensibly over violations of the Iraqi border, led to the Gulf War which began 16 January 1991. A US-led multi-national force expelled Iraq from Kuwait during the "Desert Storm" offensive and a cease-fire was signed 28 February 1991. France denied 20 July 2000 that it had carried out vaccine or chemical experiments on the 25,000 troops it deployed for the Gulf War. About 100,000 US soldiers and unknown numbers of Canadian, British and French servicemen have complained of nervous disorders, muscular pains and generalised fatigue after taking part in the reconquest of Kuwait in 1991 after its invasion by Iraq.
