TO GO WITH STORY BY REAGAN MASHAVAVE Four months after being moved from the Marange diamond fields in eastern Zimbabwe, 25-year-old Kudakwashe Muchena, a former diamond panner, and his wife Mercy Makotora pose on December 13, 2011 outside their new house in Arda Transau, 280 kms east of Harare. Thousands of families were expulsed from their homes in Marange to make way for excavation machines of major mining companies allied to the regime of President Robert Mugabe. They are still awaiting compensation promised by the mining companies. Only 500 families obtained new housing from the mining firms while another 3,500 are still waiting to be either moved or are living in temporary housing.
