MADURA ISLAND, MADURA, INDONESIA - 2014/01/24: A couple are seen enjoying a smoothy drink and using Wifi internet in a Warkop in Madura Island.
"Warkop" is the name of Indonesia small cafeterias where young people drink tea and smoke shisha, comes from "Warung" in bahasa Indonesia which means "family restaurant" and "koppi" is coffee. If in other countries young people go to pubs to drink beer, in the big cities of Java, youth spend hours into the so-called "warkop".
Only 2.2 percent of Indonesians over the age of 20 had consumed alcohol in the previous 12 months, according to market researcher Nielsen in 2014.
In the last years, Conservative Muslim groups tried to banned alcohol in Indonesia, In April 2015 a government regulation took effect banning the sale of beer in the small convenient store. Despite this, the biggest muslim organization of the country Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) opposes a total ban on alcohol in the capital Jakarta. But banning would probably boost the consumption of home-made alcohol and other substances extremely dangerous for the health, in February 2016, 26 Indonesias died after drinking home-made alcohol, most of them were students.
