One Year Out, Rio Continues Preparations For The 2016 Olympics

A resident's representative estimates around 80 remaining families of an original 700 are resisting eviction from the community. Evictions and demolitions continue in the area and have occurred in numerous other Rio communities with tangential links to the games. Much of the area in and around Olympic Park will be converted into high-end commercial properties following the games. August 5 marks the one-year mark to the start of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
