Mark Kano is a singer, songwriter and producer from Greensboro, NC. As front man for the alternative rock group Athenaeum, he was signed to Atlantic Records and EMI Music Publishing towards the end of the 90's. The late Billboard Magazine editor Timothy White called Athenaeum's debut "Radiance", one of the best releases of 1998 in his "Music To My Ears" column. "Radiance" went on to sell over 100,000 copies led by the hit single "What I Didn't Know", which peaked at number 9 on Billboard's Modern Rock radio chart. "What I Didn't Know" sold over 40,000 copies, and garnered the band a spot in Billboard's top 100 chart for singles sales. Other songs from the album appeared in movies and television shows such as "Varsity Blues", "Melrose Place" and "General Hospital", and the video for the bands second single "Flat Tire", was premiered on MTV.
In 2009, Kano reemerged as a solo artist with another stellar collection of songs appearing on his self-produced debut solo record "Walking On Broadway". Mixed by veteran producer Gavin MacKillop (Goo Goo Dolls, Toad The Wet Sprocket) and with the help of friends Nic Brown, Snuzz, Mike Garrigan and Sam Frazier, Kano released an album that received rave reviews from fans and critics alike, producing the standout tracks, "Telling You I Love You", "Walking On Broadway", "Calling Saturn" and "Baby I'm Your Man". The song "Walking On Broadway" was voted as one of 2009's best singles on the popular music website alternativeaddiction.com, and reached 5th in the Best of Rock charts on the MTV partnered website ourstage.com, having stayed in the top 20 for 4 consecutive weeks.
Kano recently released a new single titled "If I Ever Get Over You", exclusively for download online, and is busy writing songs for his next record.
