Captured British sailors: Vice Admiral Charles Style press conference; ENGLAND: London: Ministry of Defence: INT Vice Admiral Charles Style (Royal Navy) press conference SOT - the aim of this brief is to provide you with factual account of incident in which 15 British service personnel were seized/ HMS Cornwall was in charge of coalition force/ this force maintains sovereignty and integrity under UN Security Council Resolution 1723 and with approval of Iraqi government/ charged with protection of the Iraqi offshore oil infrastructure and merchant shipping/ on 23rd March (2007) 7 Royal Marines and 8 sailors conducting a routine boarding of an Indian flagged merchant vessel, after witnessing it unloading cars on to two barges/ 66 routine boardings conducted recently, so this entirely routine business, where other boarding's have taken place/ boarded ship was clarly in Iraqi territorial waters/ Master of merchant vessel has confirmed this position - 29 degrees 50.36 minutes north - 1.7 nautical miles inside Iraqi territorial waters, as confirmed by the Iraqi Foreign Minister/ Iranian government has provided two different locations on Saturday and Monday/ Saturday location was still in Iraqi territorial waters - we pointed this out on Sunday, then, new co-ordinates were given on Monday/ it is hard to understand a legitimate reason for this change in co-ordinates/ we contest both figures provided by Iraninas/ one of the boats is fitted with GPS equipment, connected to HMS Cornwall, superimposing its position on electronic map on the Cornwall/ communication lost 09.10/ Lynx helicopter returned to scene to locate boats/ found them being escorted by Iranian vessels and now inside Iranian territorial waters/ boarding team were ambushed while disembarking from merchant vessel/ HMS Cornwall and boarding party was about her legal business in Iraqi territorial waters under UN security council resolution/ action by Iranian forces is unjustified and wrong/ as such, a matt...
