This type of pistol, known for its knockdown power, continues to be used by such elite forces as the US Marines Expeditionary Unit. Ironically, the M1911 was developed after US soldiers found their .38 caliber revolvers were inadequate in stopping fierce Muslim warriors in southern Philippines.
