A memorial cairn and cross to Anglo-Irish Antarctic explorer, Sir Ernest Shackleton (1874 - 1922) at Hope Point on the island of South Georgia in the south Atlantic, 1922. The cross was erected by Shackleton’s men after his death on board the Expedition ship, Quest, on 5th January 1922. Shackleton is buried in the Norwegian cemetery at Grytviken on the island.
