Staff Photo by Doug Jones, Friday, May 2, 2003: Weather made poor sailing for this boatload of Thompson Island Outward Bound students so they decided to lay over at Prout's Neck in Scarborough. They departed Boston Harbor Thursday morning and hope to make Hurricane Island, off the coast of Vinalhaven, by Tuesday. A radar reflector atop their main mast keeps them safe from collision with other boats with radar but their only navigation devices are compass and sextant, and a VHF radio for communication.
