US President George W. Bush and other top officials were given strong warnings about the potential devastation before Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans last year, according to details of meetings revealed 01 March 2006 by the Associated Press news agency, almost six months to the day after the storm. The president asked no questions during a briefing one day before the hurricane struck, which was captured on video. Katrina struck 29 August 2005, killing more than 1,300 people, many in New Orleans. More than 2,000 people are still officially listed as missing. The government's slow reaction to the devastation has contibuted to a major slump in the Bush administration's popularity rating.
