France - Environment - Raoni chief of Kayapo Visit

In France for a cataract operation and to collect funds for his people, indigenous Indian chief of the Kayapo tribe Raoni Metuktire who lives in the Amazon tropical rainforest on the territory of Brazil visits Chateau de Cheverny. His people are threatened by the construction of the Belo Monte hydroelectric dam that will flood 400,000 hectares and displace over 30,000 people including the Kayapo. The ecological impact on the region is tremendous. On June 1st, 2011 the final authorization for the construction was granted to Norte Energia.
