Abandoned Industrial Buildings In Rio's Port District Home To Many Families

Trash is often burned due to a lack of garbage collection services in the area. Residents say the building has been occupied for the past 14 years, but the government has begun relocating some of the families to alternate housing. Ahead of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Rio has started a multibillion dollar urban renewal program of its port district which includes a double decker waterfront freeway being torn down to be replaced by tunnels, repaved roads, a tram network and other infrastructure improvements in the area.
